FAMILY

Sometimes, when I'm running around my empty apartment dancing, hoping I remembered to make sure the venetian blinds were slanting up and not down, I think to myself, "How did I get so crazy?". Then I go through my iPhoto albums and remember why. Then I remember how insanely lucky I am to have such a kicka$$ family.

I thought about explaining these pictures... but I decided not to try.

Gettin' Excited!

In less than a month, I get to see ARCADE FIRE in concert! They are definitely one of my favorite bands, and I seriously cannot wait to see them.

Here they are singing in an elevator/the street
(the guy ripping pages is the best)

They won the album of the year Grammy this year! They SO deserved it.

Here they are winning album of the year and performing right after... the music starts at about 2:44
(I love how happy they all are!!!)

Enlightening Time Waster

TED TALKS

I cannot get enough of them. I have learned about everything: how to cure cancer, magic tricks, deep sea glow-in-the-dark fish species, prosthetic legs, Danish pig orgasms (really though), how to save the world with mushrooms... the list goes on on on on and on. Sure, it's not studying, but I definitely feel enlightened.

Real Men Love Cats

I love cats. I love boys. Therefore, I love boys who have cats! Just look at these brilliant examples.

Thanks Mom!

Nothing spells Valentines day like Sees Bordeaux, Starbursts, and 3 glorious bottles of Trader Joe's Thai Curry (oh and the Decemberists T shirt I left over Christmas break). My mom sure must love me.

Note to Utah... Get a Trader Joe's ASAP

Wait what? A mini Banjo?

Could it be? An adorable, uke-style version of my favorite instrument?

How on earth have I been missing out on this goodness?

And Zooey has one?

Clearly I need it.

(I hope my full-size five string doesn't start feeling sensitive about his weight)

The Man Cave

I have never wanted to be a man more than I do now, thanks to the shallow headlines that my trusty Yahoo homepage never fails to provide. Why can't women have "woman caves"? And sorry to get all Susan B. Anthony on you, but no, the kitchen and the laundry room do not count.

So anyway, here's a little glimpse of the best man lairs out there

If only everyone's Superbowl Sunday could be as wonderful as the one these homeowners are going to have.

Let's go Steelers? Let's go Packers? Let's just be honest... I'm in it for the chips and dip.

The Triplets of Belleville

Every Saturday I watch a movie off of my Netflix queue. Today it was "The Triplets of Belleville". I have never seen anything like it in my life. The themes are fantastic, and it has the most beautiful animation. True, it's a little creepy looking, but I think creepy can be beautiful sometimes.

Watch it.

(So this is how French artists see Americans.... pretty accurate actually)

Missing Jack

I miss my brother (who is currently serving a mission in Mexico)

I miss texting him about movies I've seen.
I miss sending him funny youtube videos.
I miss the long chats about music.
I miss watching him dance around the house to "the frug" by Rilo Kiley.
I miss watching Pride and Prejudice with him.
I miss seeing him in his clothes, instead of seeing me in his clothes everyday.
I miss having someone to take me sailing and teach me about the wind.
I miss having an excuse to go to San Francisco.
I miss him I miss him I miss him.

And I miss Mary Ellen too of course :) Lucky for me she's not on a mission!!

Trashy Cartoons

You might say I have a terrible taste in cartoons, and I definitely can't disagree with you. It is one of my many character flaws. (haha... get it "character" flaws??). But everyone has to have some kind of trashy T.V. guilty pleasure right? For my roommate, it's The Bachelor. For my mom, it's Law and Order. For my dad, it's Huell Howser, California Gold. For me, it's inappropriate and or idiotic cartoons. You know, the kind your parents wouldn't let you watch, but you'd watch them anyway when you went to your friend's sketchy step-mom's house?

Anyway, this post goes out to my misunderstood animated friends. Thank you for making me rofl and lmao more than any real humans ever could.

Jimmy Nuetron, Carl, Sheen (viva Ultralord), and Goddard

Invader Zim (and GIR of course... you can't forget GIR)

Yakko, Pinky, Brain, Wakko (clearly Ringo Starr's long lost cousin), and Dot

Spongebob and Squidward (clearly crucial characters are missing... this is just one of my favorite moments: Spongebob has just discovered that Squidward actually likes krabby patties)

Ren and Stimpy (DEFINITELY a "no no" growing up)

Kenny McCormick, Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman, and Kyle Broflovski

Rocko (my favorite Aussie), and Spunky

Art found on Etsy

I loved doing this to my textbooks in high school when I needed entertainment.
If you were really good at it, you could make it through all of the pages without having them unfold themselves along the way. Lucky for this dude, he had some glue. Fantastic. I want one.

Japan

Great country
Great people
but they do some weird stuff

Beautiful Animation

Thanks to my best friend Katie, I saw this amazing video. Set to one of my favorite Weepies songs, Animated by a professor and BYU, and danced/choreographed at BYU, here is "Thought of You".

Pet Peeves

I've been irritable lately, so I just need to get it out. Here are some of the things that drive me insane!

  • Guys who wear rings on their index fingers. It looks wrong.
  • People who slurp food that is too hot for them (excluding soup). It sounds gross, and it would save you the trouble if you just blew on it first.
  • Broken paper towel dispensers. I know they're in there! I can see them! But my hands remain dripping wet.
  • Unevenly highlighted textbooks. I understand I run the risk of this by buying used text books, but c'mon, this is is college. You'd think the dude who had my book before me had properly developed motor skills. Did a squiggly line made through the words with a red pen really help you out when you studied?
  • People who wear baseball caps for fashion purposes only. When I high five a stranger wearing one, and ask them about last night's game, I expect them to know the answer. Wearing a Braves cap doesn't automatically make you gangster unless you know who Chipper Jones is.
  • The lack of shoes on the passengers of small airplanes. Small space + the socks of strangers = a very unhappy Emily.
  • Losing BeJeweled. I really hate it.
  • The way writing too hard makes indentations on the next page of the notebook.
  • Knuckle cracking, and people who think they can suddenly become a chiropractor in the middle of lecture. Do they know how loud the lumbar vertebrae can be!?
Well that's enough venting for today.

Lady GaGa

I love her. She's the real deal.
And this is why you can't judge me for it:

All Nighter

Sometimes I feel like professors decide
To find a good reason to make us all cry

Schedule all their exams on all the same days

And give us a good reason to kneel down and pray

(I think I'll quit school today)

I have a youtube channel... The last time this happened it lasted about 5 months before I got embarrassed and took it down.
Let's just see how this goes!

Great Photoblog

myparentswereawesome.com
It's my new favorite website.
Basically you just email cool old pictures of your parents and they post the best ones!
Who needs the Sartorialist when they can draw inspiration from these gems?

I'm going to have to call mom and see if she has any good pictures of her and my dad I can contribute :)
