Beautiful Animation

Thanks to my best friend Katie, I saw this amazing video. Set to one of my favorite Weepies songs, Animated by a professor and BYU, and danced/choreographed at BYU, here is "Thought of You".

Pet Peeves

I've been irritable lately, so I just need to get it out. Here are some of the things that drive me insane!

  • Guys who wear rings on their index fingers. It looks wrong.
  • People who slurp food that is too hot for them (excluding soup). It sounds gross, and it would save you the trouble if you just blew on it first.
  • Broken paper towel dispensers. I know they're in there! I can see them! But my hands remain dripping wet.
  • Unevenly highlighted textbooks. I understand I run the risk of this by buying used text books, but c'mon, this is is college. You'd think the dude who had my book before me had properly developed motor skills. Did a squiggly line made through the words with a red pen really help you out when you studied?
  • People who wear baseball caps for fashion purposes only. When I high five a stranger wearing one, and ask them about last night's game, I expect them to know the answer. Wearing a Braves cap doesn't automatically make you gangster unless you know who Chipper Jones is.
  • The lack of shoes on the passengers of small airplanes. Small space + the socks of strangers = a very unhappy Emily.
  • Losing BeJeweled. I really hate it.
  • The way writing too hard makes indentations on the next page of the notebook.
  • Knuckle cracking, and people who think they can suddenly become a chiropractor in the middle of lecture. Do they know how loud the lumbar vertebrae can be!?
Well that's enough venting for today.

Lady GaGa

All Nighter

Sometimes I feel like professors decide
To find a good reason to make us all cry

Schedule all their exams on all the same days

And give us a good reason to kneel down and pray

(I think I'll quit school today)

Great Photoblog

myparentswereawesome.com
It's my new favorite website.
Basically you just email cool old pictures of your parents and they post the best ones!
Who needs the Sartorialist when they can draw inspiration from these gems?

I'm going to have to call mom and see if she has any good pictures of her and my dad I can contribute :)

Shoulda Woulda Coulda

Once upon a time I wrote a song, and the song had a sing along part, and Rachel (my roommate/best friend) was kind enough to perform with me one afternoon. And we lived happily ever after.

If you're wondering why I keep looking up about 1/2 way through... it's because my neighbor was opening and closing the door... I'm easily distracted.

Happy Happy Birthday Sarah Dear

Happy days will come to you all year
If I had a wish that wish would be...
A happy happy birthday to YOU from ME!

Happy 21st to my best friend, SARAH

I saw Jenny Lewis!

Oh ya... and Jonathan Rice (AKA her boyfriend) too.
And I stood in the very front, in the very center.
Yup... That was my view for the most glorious concert of my life. My friend Karen, me, and her pregnant sister (I hope I'm cool enough to go to concerts when I'm pregnant) made the 45 minute trek to SLC... and it was well worth it.

Sadly... Karen was behind this guy:

Jenny Lewis started out as an actress, then became the lead singer for a little band called RILO KILEY (I love them... can't you tell?), then did some solo work (also amazing), and is now touring the country with her boyfriend and their new band... Jenny and Johnny. There's nothing better than peppy duets sung by people who are actually in love.

I love you Jennayy.

They are just so cute.

Summer was....

Great Fun!
Even though I worked most of the time (7:30-4:30 5 days a week), at an English school for foreign teenagers and adults. The people I worked with were wonderful to be around, and it is so much fun to have friends all over the world. I miss them a ton! The reality of school and studying is definitely starting to set in. :(
My summer in pictures (mostly):

Sarah and I drove home the Loooooong way home on the I-80 through San Francisco so we could see the sights and visit Jack.
These are pictures we took at this really cool lighthouse in Point Reyes.

Jack on the rooftop of the LDS Berkeley Institute of Religion. If you're wondering if that tiny thing to the right is the G.G. Bridge, and the tiny cluster of buildings on the left is San Fran,
You're right. Great view eh?

I visited Rachel back in Provo. We ate at the Red Iguana in SLC. It was really delicious I know my face tells a different story, but trust me, it was amazing.

Regan got MARRIED! on June 12th... another reason for me to visit Utah

My lovely friends from work, Star and Stefano :) I miss them waaaay to much.

This is Macu, the group leader for one of our groups from Spain. She was the best! I see a trip to Spain my future!

So... This is my boss, Sarah. AKA the best person to spend 8 hours a day with! Can't you tell we take our job very very seriously?

My best friend from birth, Katie B. got married! Our bridesmaid dresses were fabulous.

I played a little Ingrid for Trevor and Katie at their beautiful ring ceremony in Pasadena

And last, but not least, the best little brother in the whole world (he's on the far right) left on his mission! He will be serving in Hermosillo, Mexico for the next two years!
I'm going to start a blog with all his emails, I'll post the link when I finish it.

So basically... I'm sad summer's over. Can't you tell?

Twilight

So my little sister says that I whine too much about Twilight. Yes, I find the obsessive nature of the fans quite disturbing, and the thing about loving a guy who likes to creep on you in your room at night baffles me. But many awesome people in my life (my sister and Aunt included) like the books and movies, and I'm tired of my crabby anti-twilight mood. No, I'm not planning on reading the books, or enjoying the movies (I wouldn't recommend laughing out loud in a theater full of die hard fans), but I have decided to point out some of the things I actually like about the series. Mary and Aunt Sarah, consider this my olive branch.

1.) The location.
Washington is so so so so cool. I wish I lived there. Way to go Steph M.

2.) The soundtracks.

Muse, Band of Horses, Death Cab, Florence and the Machine, The Dead Weather, Vampire Weekend, Iron and Wine, Grizzly Bear, a duet with Bon Iver and St. Vincent????
At least all the whiny and anemic-ly pale teeny boppers are being exposed to top notch musicians.

3.) Edward's clothes.

Pea coats and Wayfarers. If he was real and didn't suck blood... I would be in love. The paleness can stay...

4.) Taylor Lautner with his shirt off

No explanation needed.

5.) Can't really think of a fifth reason... but let's be optimistic and see if I can come up with one after seeing the third movie... what's it called again? Ellipse? Tree drips? He Trips?
ohhhh ya... Eclipse.

ARGGGH

It's three AM!!!
I've been trying to write this paper that's due tomorrow for about five hours now.
And all I seem to be able to do at the moment is read witty blogs, and ponder the dream I just had about being married to Jack White (aka best dream ever). All whilst listening to every Weepies song ever written.
Why am I not a music major?
I'd much rather stay up all night with a guitar and some score paper
Oh wait, I do that anyway.

Oh goodness I just love him.
In my dream we had boy/girl twins named "Desmond" and "Molly" a la Obla di Obla da. Which is strange, since I don't see Jack White being a huge Beatles fan.

Old Man Thursday

Call me crazy... but I love Jack Nicholson.
True he may be kind of a creep in real life... but I think he's one of the greatest actors who ever lived. I knew it the moment I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.
Heeeeerrrreeeessss Johnnny!!! The Shining=terrifying. Don't see it if you would like to avoid nightmares.
Here is a funny video I found on youtube...
they redid some clips from the shining (a horror film), added some fun music, and made it look like a romantic comedy!

whatta guy... a creepy one... but a talented one

Just being greedy....

So I've been drooling over some things and I just thought I'd share :)
Like these adorable hand stamped name rings I found on etsy!
Or this great denim tunic from Penelope's
This "Boyfriend Pullover" looks so comfy!
And I think I need this backpack!
Both from Steven Alan (Which happens to be my favorite online store at the moment!)
The March 2010 Vogue was phenomenal!!!
I love love love love military garb. Army green is totally one of my favorite colors! Take me to the army surplus store any day of the week and I'm happy.
I dug this cardigan
I literally gasped when I saw this red dress. Sure, it's like nearly 2000 dollars, but a girl can dream.

Ah the Sartorialist... always making me wish I was rich and skinny.
If I owned a suit this fabulous... I would ask to be buried in it.

ahem... me in four or five years. (maybe not the salad, but especially the mismatched socks bit)

You Know You're Lucky When...

You walk into your apartment, feeling defeated by a test... only to find your favorite candy and a movie from redbox.
Rachel is the best.

Oh Jimmy....

Saw this video on youtube... and it made me laugh pretty hard

My Favorite Oscar Dresses!

The last night were amazing! Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were hilarious hosts. I spent the evening laughing at them and crying at basically every acceptance speech. The best part of the night was the tribute to John Hughes... I bawled the whole time. Anyway... here are my pics for the most fabulous dresses of the night!

Anna Kendrick in Elie Saab... I know the dress is the same color as skin... but I kinda like that

Carey Mulligan in Prada. I absolutely love her. I think she should have won best actress for An Education, but I was happy for Sandra anyway! This dress is fabulous. I love the neck line.

Demi Moore in Versace. Lots of critics hated this but I like it!

Penelope Cruz in Donna Karan: Do I even need to explain why this is the most fabulous dress ever? No

Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab: This print is beautiful

Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham: I'm usually not into the whole bustier thing... but I love this.

Here's the John Hughes tribute:
(fast forward to the 35 second mark)

I still can't figure out how to fit a widescreen video on my blog... so here's the link

OMGLEE!!

Just saw this preview for Glee which is coming back in April!!
I am so so so so so so so excited!!

I tried posting the preview directly here... but it's widescreen and it gets cut off :(
So here's the link!

cold weather fashion

I don't know what's better... this woman's glasses, that she has on a tweed-y cape, or the fact that she has used a cardigan as a scarf.
If you want the Sartorialist to feature you... you better be resourceful

sorry!

Old Man Thursday

Sir Michael Caine! The first time I saw him was when I watched Miss Congeniality, but it wasn't until last night watching the original "Alfie" on TCM, that I realized how handsome he was!

No wonder they got JUDE LAW to play him in the Alfie remake!
He looks just like him!

I love you Michael Caine
