PS

I know I was supposed to make a playlist yesterday... but I didn't...
sorry!

Old Man Thursday

Sir Michael Caine! The first time I saw him was when I watched Miss Congeniality, but it wasn't until last night watching the original "Alfie" on TCM, that I realized how handsome he was!

No wonder they got JUDE LAW to play him in the Alfie remake!
He looks just like him!

I love you Michael Caine

Shoot! It's a Video!

Do you ever think you're taking a picture.... when really it's a video?
I do it all the time.
I do it at work (above)

I do it at Dodgers games

I do it in front of friends apartments

And I do it at New Years eve parties

Moral to this story: I don't think there is one...
I just thought it was funny :)
Have a great saturday

A weekend in Berkeley :)

Me and my one and only Grandpa :)
(Jack)

So I have an amazing Dad. He paid for me to fly out to LA for president's day weekend so I could drive with him and my little sister, Mary Ellen, to visit my bro, Jack up at Berkeley! Grandma and Grandpa Spencer flew in to San Fran as well! The only person missing was mom... who was staying home with my Gram. Gram is going through her umpteenth round of chemo (boo) and she needed someone to stay and keep her company. We had a fabulous weekend! I relaxed and slept most of Friday and Saturday daytime.

On Saturday night we went to a fabulous Sicilian restaurant in downtown Berk. It was called La Coco. I'm going to be honest... I'm a huge fan of Italy, but I've never really been a fan of pasta. Blasphemous as it may seem. Anyway, I can still handle an Italian place as long as the tiramisu is up to par, and at La Coco... it most definitely was. Success. The rest of the evening was spent watching the olympics and laying in the most amazing hotel bed EVER.

I didn't take any pictures on Fri/Sat... but Sunday and Monday I had the camera out and ready!

Mar on Rob's (jack's roommate) bed. He took a picture everyday last year!!

Jack is having such an amazing time at Berkeley! He has THE BEST college town in the world to live in, an amazing student ward, the coolest dorm room, the coolest friends, and an AMAZING campus to study on... not to mention, the awesome food the town has to offer. There isn't a chain restaurant in sight! We went to an awesome cafe for breakfast burritos one morning. mmm... yummy. My favorite food stop in Berk? Top Dog. Better than J-Dawgz here in Provo I'm sad to say.
We spent an amazing sunday afternoon in San Fransisco! Just across the bay from Jack!
We spent most of our time in Chinatown... It was Chinese new year!
So excited for the Pot Stickers that would soon be in my belly
I love my siblings more than anything in the world!
Grandma on the left. I love her. You know what else I love? Chinese lanterns!
Firecrackers were going off EVERYWHERE ringing in the new year (oh ya... and Valentine's day) . These little fellows (brats really), were dropping fire-poppers on people as they walked by... pretty funny.

BIG SUR on the way home was totally worth the detour. Grandpa had expressed the desire to see the CA coast... and dad granted that wish! Such a great Monday.
dad and his dad:
I love my dad! I'm glad he stopped to take in the scenery... the highway was right on the edge of a cliff and dad was so distracted by the pretty water, I thought we were going to drive off the road for sure!

I love my sunny home state. Best weekend ever!
and to top it off China won the gold in pair's figure skating!!!! oh how I love Shen and Zhao

So... I like to write songs

Here's a video of one I wrote today... for no particular reason or person.
I apologize in advance for the obvious wardrobe malfunction and the nostril shots. Oh yes... and I would like to pat myself on the back for actually putting a video up. My friends bug me about it everyday... and I have finally done it!!! yesss

Playlist Wednesday! Eight from the Eighties

Eight Essentials from the Eighties
One of my favorite things to do in Salt Lake City is going 80's dancing... the fact that we even have 80s dance parties definitely wouldn't be possible without these songs... or these videos

2. TAKE ON ME, A-Ha: most amazing music video ever... and that high note... oh gosh

3. LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD, Pat Benatar: Females unite

4. ROCK LOBSTER, B-52s: They used to play this at dances when my dad was in college... and he said they would sizzle on the floor like lobsters.... wish I could have seen that happen... good thing I have a father who isn't ashamed to reenact

5. GENIUS OF LOVE, Tom Tom Club: producers who lack creativity always sample this song

6. SAFETY DANCE, Men Without Hats: We can dance if we want to

7. I KNOW WHAT BOYS LIKE, The Waitresses: don't we all wish we had this confidence

Old Man Thursdays: Christopher Plummer

This week's "old man thursday" goes out to my favorite former sea captain/anti-nazi/Julie Andrews-kissing man. "Somewhere in my wicked childhood, I must have done something good."

Captain Von Trapp, what a fox!

Almost There!

Tomorrow morning, at around 4:00 AM, I will brave the snowy I-15 and make my way to the SLC city airport. I will then board a plane bound for LAX, and my wonderful home. This weekend is going to be amazing!!! But first there are some things I have to do.
1. Go to class: New Testament, Language Impairment, Articulation and Phonology
2. Write a 6-7 "Adolescent Autobiography"
3. Pack
I'm almost there!!!

And when I get there, I will look exactly like this!

Playlist Wednesdays (on a thursday) A-B

I was too lazy to actually do this on Wednesday, too lazy to add any links, and too lazy to just pick random good songs from my head so I went through artists A-B selecting good songs at random. I'll tell you what I'm not too lazy to do though, listen to some amazing music!!!

1. A.C. Newman, Take On Me: A brilliant A-Ha cover. The real A-Ha music video is the coolest thing of my life

2. Alison Krauss, Down to the River to Pray: I love love love O Brother Where Art Thou. Best soundtrack ever made by far. Alison has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.

3. Alanis Morrisette, You Oughtta Know: Beyonce covered this at the Grammy's and I freaked. Bad A-- for real. Someday I will have super long hair and I will swing it in circles to this.

4. Amos Lee, Soul Suckers: Gorgeous and haunting.

5. Aquabats, Pizza Day: Singing loudly in my roommate Rachel's red jeep (named el scorcho)

6. Aqualung, Strange and Beautiful: Beautiful piano accompaniment. Makes me want to slow dance.

7. Arcade Fire, Intervention: Kill me now. This song is heavenly.

8. Aretha Franklin, Ain't No Way: Sing it girl.

9. Augustana, Boston: I forgot how much I loved this song until I heard it at the grocery store the other day. I shamelessly sang it at the top of my lungs in the cereal aisle.

10. Avril Lavigne, Nobody's Fool: I was obsesssssed with Avril in middle school. literally listened to her CDs everyday. She straight up raps in this song.... which is pretty cool

11. Barenaked Ladies, If I Had a Million Dollars: This is my middle school history teacher, Drouin's favorite song. She was the best teacher I've ever had, and she used to play this all the time during class. She would lip sync it perfectly.

12. The Beatles, Mother Nature's Son: According to popular belief, it is impossible to have a favorite Beatles song. False.

13. Beirut, Elephant Gun: Beirut is so awesome. I love Zachary Condon's vibrato.

14. Belle and Sebastian, Blues are Still Blue: Call me cliche, but The Life Pursuit is my favorite album of theirs. I start dancing every time I hear this song, even if I'm in the middle of anthropologie.

15. Beyonce, Freakum Dress: Beyonce is a Goddess, no doubt about that. I want to be her when I grow up.

16. Billy Joel, Movin' Out: Hear attack ack ack ack ack ack

17. Bob Dylan, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Caroll: Best story teller in music's history. My favorite Dylan song.

18. Bon Iver, Flume: My lullaby. Sounds fantastic on vinyl.

19. Boston, More Than a Feeling: They played this during "The Men Who Stare at Goats" and I had a sudden craving for guitar hero.

20. Brett Dennen, Just Like the Moon: One of the coolest voices I've ever heard. This song is so cute!

21. Brooks and Dunn, My Maria: Now, I'm not the biggest country fan, but for some reason I LOVE this song. Like seriously, I love it.

22. Bruce Channel, Hey Baby: They always play this during BYU volleyball games. A crowd singing in unison is one of my favorite things in the whole world.

23. Bruce Ruffin, Oo Oo Child: Always makes me feel bad after a bad day.

24. Buffalo Springfield, For What It's Worth: Stop. children, what's that sound? Everybody look what's goin' down.

Happy Birthday Kasse Pants!!

Happy 21st Birthday to Kasse! One of the best friend/roommates in the world! We've had some great times... trying to plan dance parties (that no one came to) in the freshman dorms, randomly driving from St. George all the way to my house in San Dimas in the wee small hours of the morning on a whim, and laughing til we cry... I LOVE HER!
Let's hope we don't party TOO hard tonight ;)

Old Man Thursdays

Today I am celebrating one of my favorite old men (well he would definitely be old if he were still alive), John Wayne. His real name was Marion... but most knew him as The Duke.

Here's my favorite scene from "Cowboys"... It kind of contradicts what I've been learning all this time in my speech pathology classes.... but oh well!

Playlist Wednsdays!

Happy Wednesday!!! Are you ready for the most amazingly random playlist ever made?
Some of them you will love... some you will still love even though you want to hate them
A couple links are videos, some are full length, but most are just samples! I would go to Playlist.com or Youtube to listen to the full versions!

1. Otis Redding, The Happy Song (Dum Dum): Play this song... I dare you not to smile

2. The Format, Snails: Nothing makes me happier then an original sounding voice singing a cleverly written song about Hermaphrodites.

3. Ray Lamontagne, Please : Oh goodness I love Ray. His voice is like a hand that reaches into my body and caresses my soul. No joke. "baby I was born just to kiss your mouth"

4. Fiona Apple, Paper Bag: Dear Fiona, someday we're going to be friends. This song defines my life right now.

5. Maria Mena, Sorry: I first heard this song on "So you think you can dance". Her voice is just so simple and honest. I love that!! It's like she's telling a story.

6. Ben Folds, Zak and Sara: Do I even need to explain why I love this song? my favorite normal guy who just so happens to be famous. Ben Folds is top notch. ooo wa ooo wa

7. The Shins, Turn on Me: My favorite Shins song. I have a pretty hilarious poster of them in my bedroom... I think it freaks my roommate out a little.

8. Edith Piaf, La Foule: I first heard this when I was watching Amelie. I have no idea what the song means, but I play it in my car when I'm mad at snotty people. Nothing says mad like some French and some R rolls. rrrrr

9. Nessun Dorma (any version): Get's me everytime. One night I couldn't sleep, so I decided it would be a good idea to kill time by listening to opera while reading the English translations. Let's just say my roommate woke up to find me bawling on my couch while listening to this song. I think I make her nervous sometimes....

10. Eartha Kitt, C'est si Bon (It's so good): I'm in a French mood today. Someday I will go to Paris and listen to this song in my taxi on the way to my adorable hotel.

11. Dave Matthews Band, Grey Street: Everyone needs a little Dave in their lives. This one is my favorite. I saw a this one guy play an acoustic cover of it once, and he got so into it, he broke two strings.

12. Cat Stevens, The Wind: HUGE Cat Stevens fan. My best friend Sarah and I listened to this song in my car while waiting to get into the disneyland parking structure... so whenever I think of Cat Stevens I think of Mickey Mouse... is that odd?

13. Blitzen Trapper, Furr: Once upon a time I went to the Hollywood Bowl to see Ray Lamontagne. These guys opened for him (along with my idol Jenny Lewis). I loved 'em.

14. Jesse McCartney Feat. T-pain, Body Language: RANDOM... a terrible guilty pleasure. Imagine my girlfriends and I driving down the 57 with the windows down after Pizookies. We listened to this five times... That thing you got behind you is amazing.

15. The Aquabats, Super Rad: 15 year-olds punching it out at church dances. ahhh memories

16. Greg Laswell, Comes and Goes in Waves: A Grey's Anatomy discovery. Many musical gems have I discovered on the medical soap opera.

17. Amos Lee, Colors: Sexy. Those high notes... eee gads.

18. The Talking Heads, And She Was: My dad's favorite song. Imagine a tall, skinny, middle-aged engineer with glasses dancing around my living room. I love him to death.

19. Noah and the Whale, Shape of My Heart: I listened to this song almost everyday walking home from class last year, So when I hear it, I can literally see every crack in the sidewalk by my old apartment.

20. Peter Gabriel, The Book of Love: so many good times associated with this song... none of them having to do with being in love. ha!
